Jennifer Hudson has been added to this year’s lineup of female performers for the return of VH1's Diva's Live. She will be joined by fellow "divas" Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Miley Cyrus. Additional guest performers include Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Cyndi Lauper and Martina McBride. Paula Abdul will host the event which is scheduled to air live on VH1 on Thursday, September 17th.
We at MDM are wondering who bumped their head and decided that Miley Cyrus was a diva. In the words of Beyonce, “She ain’t no diva!” Furthermore, all of the listed performers are fairly new to the industry. The closest thing to a veteran on this list is Kelly Clarkson. All of the other ladies are barely on their sophomore album, minus Miley who doesn't even count. Being a diva is about longevity, earning your stripes, poise, grace, success, and, of course, unmatched talent. In the past Diva's has featured artists such as Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, and Whitney Houston. Unfortunately, none of the current performers deserve to be in the same pantheon as these legendary female singers—at least not yet. Some of them are well on their way to becoming divas, but as of right now it's a little too premature to give any of these females that title. Then again, VH1 exhausted its list of legendary female performers a long time ago. Anyway, we're interested in seeing the performers who will be participating in the show, so we'll be tuned in. It's safe to say VH1 is probably more interested in drawing in viewers than preserving the integrity of the show and what it means to be a diva.
In related news, congratulations to Jennifer Hudson who recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy, David Daniel Otunga Jr.
