The daytime talk show host revealed to her audience that every time Mario Lopez appears on her show she tries, to no avail, to get him to take his shirt off. Well this time she succeeded to the tune of $20,000 all in the name of a good cause. Lopez revealed his chest and allowed himself to be dunked to benefit the Ellen for a Cure campaign to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Clarisonic Skin Care donated the check for the dunking in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
You all know by now that we at MDM love a good cause. We also love Ellen and Mario. So this gets the official MDM stamp of approval. To learn more about breast cancer visit: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or BreastCancer.org.
"Some of the world's largest recording companies are suing "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," claiming producers violated their copyrights by playing more than 1,000 songs without permission.
Check out the rest of the article after the jump.
Many of the songs were played during the "dance over" segment of the show, when DeGeneres dances from the stage to the interview area, often through the audience.
According to the suit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Nashville, when representatives of the recording companies asked defendants why they hadn't obtained licenses to use the songs, defendants said they didn't "roll that way."
As sophisticated consumers of music, Defendants knew full well that, regardless of the way they rolled, under the Copyright Act, and under state law for the pre-1972 recordings, they needed a license to use the sound recordings lawfully," the suit states.
Scott Rowe, spokesman for the show's Telepictures Productions, wrote in an e-mailed statement that the company has been working with the record labels for months to resolve the issue and remains willing to resolve it on "amicable and reasonable terms."
Rowe said the issue does not involve DeGeneres, who on Wednesday was named as the fourth judge on TV's "American Idol," and whom Rowe calls "a tremendous music enthusiast and advocate."
The suit claims the daytime talk show has used copyrighted music without permission since its inception, including "recordings by virtually every major current artist of popular music." It claims the show routinely used some of the most popular songs of the day, which the record labels don't license for daytime television at any price.
Other songs cited in the lawsuit include Michael Jackson's "Thriller"; The Beach Boys'"Good Vibrations" and Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It."
The suit calls the segment and the music played by the show's own disc jockey "signature elements of the show."
Plaintiffs include Arista Music, Atlantic Recording Corp., Capitol Records, Motown Record Company, Sony Music Entertainment, Virgin Records America and Warner Bros. Records.
The suit does not specify the dollar amount it seeks in damages." (Source: AP News)
Remember two days ago we suggested that there was a small glimmer of hope that Paula Abdul would return as a judge on American Idol after Randy and Simon expressed that they missed her? Well, scratch that. Paula Abdul is out and Ellen DeGeneres is in. Ellen DeGeneres will be the permanent fourth judge on the upcoming season of American Idol. Needless to say, we are elated. Although Paula added an interesting element to the show, we love Ellen longtime. This isn't Ellen's first time in the judge's seat either. This past summer she served as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance.
Now many of you might be wondering what right does Ellen have to judge a singing contest. However, the same could have been said for Ms. Abdul. Although she was a successful pop act in the '90s, she isn't exactly the definition of a songstress. I don't think we'll be seeing Paula Abdul on anybody's "Greatest Singers of All Time" list. Her and Ellen are actually each other's equivalent in that respect. Both are good dancers, neither one can sing. And the same could be said for the millions of people who tune in every week, form their judgments, and vote but can't sing, dance or even give a decent rendition of "Row Your Boat." According to Ellen:
"'I'm the people's point of view because I'm just like you [...] I'm looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.'" (Source: Yahoo News)
Ellen will also continue on with her Emmy Award-winning talk show during her stint as a judge on AI. The ninth season of American Idol will premiere on January 12, 2010 on Fox. We at MDM strongly approve.
Lady Gaga is everywhere it seems. She stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres show to perform "LoveGame." We love this song and Lady Gaga is a bad ass performer. Work it out Lady G.
